BRYAN FERRY AT ODEON OF HERODES ATTICUS ON SEPTEMBER 11

Emblematic pop singer Bryan Ferry, who has influenced generations with his music, is visiting Athens for a unique performance. In addition to his concert in Thessaloniki on September 13, Ferry will greet thousands of fans on September 11 at Athens’ Odeon of Herodes Atticus. Bryan Ferry is among of the most iconic singers and lyricists whose vocal brilliance and extraordinary creativity has inspired since the 1960s.

Award Winning Artist & Accomplished Musician

Son of a miner, Ferry studied Fine Art at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. His artist vision was heavily influenced by British Pop Art founder, Richard Hamilton. Ferry simultaneously developed his musical talent and formed the band Roxy Music in 1970, together with a group of friends including Graham Simpson, and Brian Eno who left the band two years later. Ferry remained lead and only singer for Roxy Music, giving Ferry the opportunity to produce his first solo album in 1973 – leaving his band’s more glamorous rock behind and moving toward pop music. Ferry continued to record as a solo artist, releasing his second solo album in 1974, another in 1976, and a sixth solo album in 1985, at which point he finally decided to disband Roxy Music. Today Ferry has released 14 albums and has embarked on numerous tours, including his major world tour in 2017. Ferry’s musical career has demonstrated him to be an innovative and enthralling music genius.

“The Countless Aspects Of Beauty”

The National Archaeological Museum is undoubtedly the largest and culturally richest in Greece. It houses an abundance in collections and unique exhibits, all providing a panorama of Greek civilization from the beginnings of Prehistory to Late Antiquity. “Odysseys” captures every visitors’ attention, whereas “The Countless Aspects of Beauty” is an exquisite exhibition that calms your mind and eases your soul by bringing out the different versions of aesthetics such as beauty, harmony and perfection. During the month of August, the museum - very often crowded with countless Greek and foreign visitors - offers a most comfortable experience, as the masses have for the most part left the city on holiday.

“Beauty” Completes The Museum’s Anniversary Celebration

The temporary exhibition, “The Countless Aspects of Beauty” forms the last part of the exhibition’s trilogy that was designed to honor the 150th anniversary of the National Archaeological Museum. The trilogy was inaugurated with the presentation of “A Dream Among Splendid Ruins..." Additionally, “Strolling through the Athens of Travelers, 17th-19th Century”, along with “Odysseys” capture the efforts of human creation and evolution. The exhibition’s narrative unfolds in four parts and focuses on aesthetics, the beautiful and the desirable, the expression of beauty in the visual rendering of the human body and the significance of beauty amidst human life.

THE HUMAN FIGURE IN CYCLADIC ART & THE WORK OF GEORGE CONDO

For the first time in Greece, the Museum of Cycladic Art hosts an independent exhibition of George Condo, the artist of Artificial Realism. The exhibition explores the human figure and its numerous artistic manifestations throughout the history of art. A total of 30 works are presented, which span the last 20 years of the artist’s creative career.

Condo, Basquiat, Haring, and Koons

Condo, along with Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, and Jeff Koons, played a key role in reviving figuration in America in the 1980s. The art combines the classical technique of painters and is defined as a realistic representation, characterized by an emphasis on American pop culture. It is a balance between the beautiful and the grotesque, the seemingly logical and the absurd, the mundane and the eerie. Condo creates almost a new kind of Cubism and his work reveals his ability to capture all the dimensions of a personality. He harmoniously combines elements of different art movements such as surrealism, expressionism, pop art and Carl Barks comics. Condo’s work, which is infused with music and art history knowledge, parallels the same path as self-taught musician and artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, followed by Haring, Koons, Barrows and Warhol.

Condo’s First Time In Greece

Curated by Atalanti Martinou, the first major solo museum exhibition of George Condo in Greece began on June 8 and will run until October 14. Visitors of Condo’s paintings will immediately recognize the influences of Goya, Velázquez and Picasso. This exhibition wonderfully bridges the Museum of Cycladic Art’s permanent collection with its periodical art exhibitions.

A one-of-a-kind violinist

Kennedy's background is intensely musical - his grandfather was Australian Lauri Kennedy, cellist with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and his grandmother Dorothy Kennedy was also a piano soloist.
